Autism

autism heart

From Wikipedia, Autism is “a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.”

Of course, autism is much more complicated than that.  We have a saying in the autism community that goes something like “if you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.”

Every child on the spectrum presents differently and each child presents different challenges to their caregivers.

In my practice, I combine my 20 years of experience working with exceptional individuals as well as my many years as a parent of children on the spectrum to create real world solutions for parents.  By taking the “teach a man to fish” approach, I work not only with the child but with the family.  My goal is to eliminate or decrease the intensity of the issues that brought the family to me in the first place while at the same time teaching real-world techniques and skills to the parents that will allow them to better support and help their child grow and thrive in the future.  By working with the family, I hope to create a safer, stronger nurturing environment that will foster enhanced growth and development throughout the child’s life.

No matter if your child is verbal, non-verbal, “high functioning” or “low functioning”, I will help craft an individualized plan to meet their needs and increase the supports available to you and your family.

I offer a variety of interventions including, but not limited to:

  • Applied Behavior Analyses
  • Theraplay
  • Neurofeedback
